This
two-year program, beginning in the junior year, is designed
to prepare students for a career in an engineering related
field and to establish a foundation for further university
level study in such fields as architectural mechanical,
electrical, civil or industrial engineering. The principles
of drafting and design are explored through exercises
and projects using both traditional and computer-aided
design techniques. Class projects may include constructing
3-D model wooden houses, bridges. Students will learn
to use drafting instruments, to operate drafting computers,
analyze correct and prepare drawings for reproduction,
as well as translate the ideas of others into workable
plans for use by skilled craftsmen.
This "Tech Prep" program meets two periods
each day, but also has required academic courses that
are taught in conjunction
with the class. In the junior year these academic courses include
English 3 (IAO) and Algebra 2 (or other approved math course).
In the senior year, the academic courses are English 4 (IAO)
and Physics. Students who meet the qualifications, are eligible
for early job placement during the second semester of their
senior year. An articulation agreement with Cuyahoga Community
College provides opportunities for college credit for this
high school program and scholarships and internship experiences
for students who attend Tri-C after graduation.
