In this semester course, students study how to meet the developmental needs of children (physical, emotional, social and intellectual), as well as how to build positive parent-child relationships. Class members will look at sources of parenting information, support and assistance. The use of positive guidance and discipline to promote self-discipline, self-esteem, and socially responsible behavior in children will be included in classroom activities. Students will plan and complete several projects and experience what it is like to care for an infant using a computerized infant simulator. FCCLA (Family, Career, Community Leaders of America) is an integral part of the course. Students are required to join the local, in-class chapter, and participate in the in-class activities. Students are required to join the state and national FCCLA organization in order to be involved in opportunities beyond the classroom.

These 2, single-semester courses focus on the successful coordination of work and family life through personal development and management of personal resources. Both sections are based on developing skills in practical problem solving, interpersonal relations, leadership, and balancing work and family tasks. Individually developed Action Projects are a course requirement used to encourage critical thinking, problem solving, and resource management. Additional topics discussed in Personal Development are: personal development, self-esteem, stress and conflict management, forming peer and family relationships, and achieving personal goals. In Managing Personal Resources, the topics are: planning and preparing nutritious foods, making consumer decisions, clothing decisions, and maintenance and creating living environments. The FCCLA organization is an integral part of the curriculum. Students are required to join the local (in-class) chapter and participate in class activities. GRADS is an in-school instructional and intervention program for pregnant and parenting teens, both male and female. The instructional objectives focus on graduation, positive health care practices, positive parenting practices, post high school education and career goals, balancing work and family, building healthy relationships and delaying subsequent pregnancies. The class helps to serve as a support group, increasing the likelihood that students will remain in school. Involvement of community agencies and organizations provides information and support services for students. Students are required to join FCCLA (Family, Career Community Leaders of America) a student leadership organization.
