Cafeteria Popular Under New System
Thirty Minute Lunch Period Accommodates Pupils Without Loss of Time

The new lunch system put into effect at Heights High September 15 accounts for the added popularity of the cafeteria, and investigation shows.

Under this plan there are three lunch sessions, one from 11:30 to 12:00 o'clock when those on the third floor eat, one from 12 to 12:30 for second floor students, and the last one from 12:30 to 1 o'clock to accommodate pupils on the first floor.

In each half-hour period approximately 200 students are served a balanced meal at the average cost of twenty cents without a tedious wait in line or unnecessary confusion.

While last year forty-eight minutes was allowed for eating, congestion and needless loss of time was caused by having the school free at the same time.

Anyone desiring to go home for lunch may be granted a hour by bringing a note from home. This privilege is up to the teacher from whose class the student is excused for the extra time.

Under personal supervision of Mrs.Judson Pierce, director of school cafeterias on the Heights, no slips are allowed to interfere with the serving of over 600 hungry students.

"There is an increase of forty dollars in the amount taken in per day this year over that of last year at the same time," said Miss Katherine Roessing, assistant director of cafeterias. "This shows that more children are eating the proper food prepared in a hygienic way."
