Vigilant Cuyahoga County Needs Your Help to Fight Tuberculosis
by Jim Amdur

1953's Christmas Seal campaign for funds to fight tuberculosis is about to begin. How is this money spent? What are Cleveland's facilities for fighting this disease? What are your chances of getting this disease? These are questions which involve you! Do you know the ans-wers?

Cuyahoga County, rather than the city proper, is the unit of organization for the treatment of this dreaded disease. The money spent on research and treatment comes in part from tax levies, but mostly from the sale of Christmas Seals. Ninety-six per cent of the funds collected in this way stays in the community where it was originally taken in. For the treatment of TB, the county is divided into six health districts, each having a health commissoner. The first five districts are Cleveland, East Cleveland, Shaker Heights, Lakewood, and Cleveland Heights. The remainder of the county comprises the sixth district.
