Unity opens to the student body

by Eva Rajki

Attempting to achieve a unified school, Unity held their first planning meeting, open to all students, December 11 and 19.

Four governments were established at the December 11 meetings to organize students and shift Unity's decisional power from the 12 member organizational core to the student body. Governmental topics, voted on at the meeting, are cultural awareness, school spirit, social interaction and incorporation of the elementary and middle school students into Unity. Chuck Bremer, who plans to participate in the cultural awareness government, stated, "Incorporating the entire school is a start toward creating a greater awareness of school issues among the student body."

Even though students will be given more responsibility, the appointed core will continue to exist for organizational purposes, although they will not participate in the governments.

Each student signs up for a government, organized by the group members, which he may volunteer to lead. "Success or defeat is judged on what they (students) are willing to put footh," core member Nicole Winbush stated.
