Welcome to Mr. Stephens' American History Class. Our class is rooted in the Engaged portion of our instructional model. The student's daily activities, outside assignments, assessments are designed to help each become an independent, well informed learner as well as learning to work well in team situations. Our activities are based in the *Engaged Learning, portion of the Mosaic Experience's instructional model, which is based in computer usage, collaboration, authentic learning, as well as independent and group (team) research.

Our goals are for each student to gain a foundation in American History which will tie the past to the present and the future. An equally important goal is to prepare students for the 10th grade Ohio Graduation Test (9th grade OGT Standards) Our most important goal is to help each student become a life-long learner in the 21st century.

Our website and its "links" are meant to be both a basis and a guide the student in Mr. Stephens' tenthth grade American History Class.

On any given day, we may research topics via the Internet, use the media center, discuss/debate class-related subjects, and work independently or with a group. The majority of our lessons, assignments, writing, and assessment skills will be conducted via computer and the Internet.

The proper use of these tools will not only help you, the student, gain an authentic, real world insight in how the past guides our present and future, but will also prepare you for the American History portion of the Ohio Graduation Test.

Assignments, study aids, reviews are on our website, in an embedded link on the website or distributed in class. All assignments are due on the date indicated. Any changes will be announced in class. There is no need for extra credit. Should you complete assignments early, you may begin the next assignment. Assignment due dates will be listed on our calendar page. Please check the calendar page often.

Information will be added to the website as time permits. If you find an interesting site, let me know about it in class or e-mail the information to me. Each student is responsible for completing these assignments on time and to the best of their ability.

Class time may only be used to complete work on the computer, students may work in groups of 2-3 or alone, discuss various aspects or concepts of historical significance which pertain to Mr. Stephens’ American History class.

Computers and Internet usage may only be used for to complete Mr. Stephens' American History assignments. Any infractions of our computer policy may cause loss of computer privileges. Computer access is available in our high school library and at both the Cleveland Heights and University Heights libraries.

Please pay very close attention to the number of sections in each chapter, assignments, and the number of days available to complete the entire assignment. For example, our first assignment - Unit 1 - has 2 chapters which have 8 sections. These 8 sections have 29 sub-sections. These assignments must be completed in 19 days (including weekends!). That means you only have less than a 1/2 days  complete EACH sub-section.

With prior permission, a student (or group of students) may choose to complete and alternative assignment and alternative assessment from the list provided. A student may also choose to design either/or alternative assignments and assessments.
