Local Professional Development Committee
LPDC
Overview
Senate Bill 230 required that effective July 1, 1998 applicants for license
renewal had to prepare a Professional Development Plan (IPDP) and submit
it for approval by the Local Professional Committee (LPDC). Certificate holders
must work through the LPDC for verification that the requirements in the
1987 standards have been met. The LPDC must, by statute, determine whether
or not an individual’s professional development plan is satisfactory
and meets the established criteria.
The CH-UH LPDC has been solely created to meet the requirements of ORC 3319.22
through Article 37.00, Professional Development Committee, of the Contract
between the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education and the
Cleveland Heights Teachers Union, Local 795 American Federation of Teachers,
AFL-CIO.
Purpose
The purpose of the Local Professional Development Committee is to oversee
and review professional development plans for credential renewal or transition.
Mission
The mission of the Local Professional Development Committee is to facilitate
the implementation of the Cleveland Heights –University Heights City
School District’s vision-Excellence in Learning
through Excellence in Teaching.
The business of schools is to design, create, and invent high quality intellectually
demanding work for students: school work that calls on students to think,
to reason, and to use their minds well. Professional development plays a
critical role in providing teachers the necessary tools to meet the multi-faceted
needs of today’s youth.
