Dear Student,
Writing is an activity that many people engage in on a daily basis. Making
lists, journal entries, reminders, notes, e-mail, text messaging are some of
the products that you may produce frequently. There are many reasons why you
may choose to write. For example, you may want to remember things, share thoughts
with friends, entertain or persuade someone of a particular point of view.
Pretending to be someone else perhaps in another time or place can be a way
to understand more about yourself. In all of the opportunities you have to
write, choose things that you care about and want to think about and then begin
the experience of uncovering new information.
Your new folder will help you explore your world using words. The folder
has been named the reflecting folder to highlight the need for thinking
about writing before, during and after you capture thoughts on paper. You can
use the tips on the folder to guide your drafting, revising, editing and publishing.
Sometimes, you may abandon a piece before it looks finished. If you have nothing
more to learn by interacting with the topic, stop and go on to experience a
new idea. Inside the front cover, you can track your comments and suggestions
to reflect on your current piece and guide you on your next piece. Keep the
folder with you as you engage in the experience of capturing your thoughts.
