A. INTRODUCTION
A primary
goal of out
middle school is to assist in the
total development of students
who are adolescents. In order
to achieve this goal, the Cleveland Heights-University
comprehensive array of extracurricular activities.
To assure that
the appropriate time
and effort is spent in each of
these areas, the Board
of Education has adopted a policy
to
determine a middle
school student’s eligibility
to participate in
extracurricular
activities.
Specific academic criteria will determine a
student’s INITIAL ELIGIBILITY
to join an
activity. A combination of
both academic and
conduct expectations will determine a
student’s BI-WEEKLY ELIGIBILITY,
throughout the duration of each sport of activity.
The major goals of this policy are:
1.
To encourage each student to participate in a variety of
extracurricular activities.
2.
To reinforce each
student’s attention and
commitment to academic
achievement.
3.
To support each student’s efforts to maintain acceptable academic and
conduct
standards.
B.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

by this eligibility
policy include virtually
all
extracurricular,
school-sponsored programs.

managers, or statisticians. Among these are all seasonal sports
teams: (Fall)
field hockey, football, girls’
tennis and soccer: (Winter) basketball, volleyball,
and wrestling; (Spring)
baseball, boys’ tennis, softball, and track.
3. Also included are any
school-sponsored clubs of activities that are not directly
related to academic course
offerings, such as chess club and drama.
C.

or cheerleading squad, a
student must be
enrolled in either

A student from any grade may
serve as a manager or a
