Roxboro Ski Club Information   2006/07 Season

When do we go? We will ski five Tuesdays in a row (weather permitting) beginning on January 9. (This is the first Tuesday after we return from winter break).

Jan. 9 – Jan. 16 – Jan. 23 – Jan. 30 – Feb. 6 (2007)

Our packet with freebie cards will be distributed on our first trip. (Depending on Brandywine.)

What is Freebie Card? Please refer to the exact details on the back of the card.

How long are we on the slopes? The club members come to my room after school to get their gear ready. We will board the bus at 2:45. We will then arrive at Brandywine at 3:45. The first lessons will begin at 3:15. There will be a call to begin getting off the slopes at 6:45. The bus will depart from Brandywine at precisely 7:30. We will arrive back at Roxboro by 8:30.

Can I eat at Brandywine?  Brandywine has an extensive food service. They also have a new food card that can be purchased. You can buy the card similar to a gift card so you don’t have to mess with cash.

Is there anything that could limit my participation? All district school rules apply to Ski Club. If you are involved in a disciplinary action, you could still go to Brandywine, however, you cannot go on the bus with the club. (There will be no refund of bus costs in such circumstances.)

How should I dress? Warm – Warm – Warm. It’s better to have a duffle bag full of clothes you will not wear, than to get there and be freezing the entire session. Above all, make certain you at least have a good pair of gloves. I highly recommend you wear a watch to keep track of lesson, and departure times!

What should I do with my gear before school? You may bring your duffle bags, skis, snowboards, and etc. to my room, Tuesday morning. I have a secure place to store all of your gear. You can come back down to my room when we get off the bus in the evening to pick it up.

Do I have to take lessons? Unless you are a member of the National Ski Patrol, or have an Olympic Gold Medal hanging on your wall, the answer is YES! You can only improve from what the instructors have to show you. If you feel it is not necessary to take lessons, do not join the club. If you are not taking lessons, the club becomes nothing more than a Taxicab service. Ski Club should be a fun learning experience, not a babysitting service. I want the kids from Roxboro to be the best skiers/boarders on the slopes! I have seen kids from other schools skiing out of control. Crazy stunts are unacceptable behavior for skiers/boarders under our supervision. Please refer to the following link to the Boston Mills/Brandywine slopes.

Since lockers at Brandywine cost a dollar, should I share with my friend?

No! I can tell you one story after another about problems with sharing lockers. Take an extra buck each week and get your own locker.

It is very important that you get off the slopes and put your gear away in a timely manner each night we ski. It really stinks to make everybody on the bus and all the parents who are arriving at Roxboro, have to wait in the cold for a student who is late to the bus. That is why I recommend wearing a watch.

Students and two advisors will be riding the charter bus. This bus will depart from Roxboro at 2:50 sharp.

If you plan to pick your child up at Brandywine, or plan to stay and ski for an additional session, please send in a signed note explaining the circumstances before we depart from school. A simple note will prevent chaos when we are accounting for students as we depart Brandywine. Trying to call parents or get in contact with me during the ski session is an ugly mess. When I see the note as I am checking off names before we depart school, I know not to look for your child during roll call before we depart from Brandywine.
