ROXBORO MIDDLE SCHOOL - TOP TEN FACTS
10. In 1921 the Cleveland
Heights Civic Club, Mrs. John T. Webster-chairman, founded Roxboro Junior High
School PTA. Mrs. RL Whitney was the first President. Roxboro Junior High classes
were held in the present Roxboro Elementary building and in portable classrooms
until 1926 when Roxboro's building was finished. In 1926 Roxboro Junior High
opened in the current building with 475 students and 23 faculty.
9. In 1958 the new office and music/home economics wing was completed. In 1976 the new library/science wing opened.

8. In the 1960's, the Davis & Wrightman Cup Championship tennis matches were played on Harold T. Clark courts at Roxboro. Arthur Ashe (pictured) appeared in the Davis Cup at Roxboro Middle School. Story
7. In 1985, Roxboro became a middle school. The ninth grade moved to Heights High and the sixth grade moved to Roxboro.
6. 1992, the concept of "Teaming" or "Team Teaching" became official at Roxboro. Teachers on academic teams were given meeting time daily to discuss student performance and plan events.
5. Since teaming began, the Unified Arts team of Mr. Adams, Mrs. Geiger, Mr. Litten, Ms McCoy, Mrs. Pompei, Mr. Richmond, Mr. Riley, and Mr. Rood have been together the longest.
4. In 1999 Roxboro's Power of the Pen team coached by Mrs. Gibson and Ms. Lewis won the state championship. (pictured below)

3. In 1994, Roxboro received the the Ohio Middle School award for teaming. In 1995, Rox received the award for interdisciplinary units and in 2001 the service learning component award. In 2003, Roxboro received an award from the National PTA for Excellence in Parent Involvement. Rox was one of only three schools in Ohio to receive this award. In 2006 Roxboro was recognized by the Ohio Department of Education for improvement in test scores and recieved a Buckeye Best award from the Governor.
2. There have been 11 principals at Roxboro since it began in 1923. Mr. Sharosky is the eleventh and he is not sure how many of the former principals used the "secret tunnel" out of the office. He thinks the tunnel is similar to the secret tunnels out of the White House for the President.
