8th grade Washington D.C. trip Information

This year we will leave Roxboro Middle School the morning of Wednesday, May 14th and return in the evening, Friday May 16th.  The cost of the trip is $330.  This includes all meals except lunch on the first day.  The cost also includes all admissions, accommodations, and transportation by deluxe motor coach.  Chaperones will be assigned on the ratio of one per every 21 students.  Male and female students will be in separate areas of the hotel with around-the-clock supervision and security.

Students will have the opportunity to group themselves in groups of four.  They will then sit with their group on the bus and share a hotel room with those students.

Students should eat a breakfast before coming to school on the first day.  Students may bring snacks and water on the bus.  As you can see by the attached itinerary, we will not be stopping for lunch until @ noon.  We ask that students not bring any beverages other than water on the bus as they cause quite a mess if spilled.

Because students are representing Roxboro Middle School and the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City Schools, we would ask that students dress clean and neat.  The middle school dress guidelines are in place, but we would advocate for students to dress their best.  Ideally, we would like students to avoid t-shirts and blue jeans because of the nature of the trip.  If a parent has an issue with the dress code-please contact Mr. Sharosky.

Students should wear comfortable shoes.  We will be doing a lot of walking.  Students should not buy new shoes the day before the trip because breaking them in can cause discomfort with so much walking.  Students should also avoid slippers, heels, and other shoes that are not conducive to taking a hike.

Layering of clothing is strongly suggested to accommodate the changing weather.  Students are limited to one suitcase (medium-sized) and one small carry-on bag for the bus.

Radios, CD players, I-pods are permitted with headphones only.  We would prefer that students not bring hand-held electronic devices because they are easily lost or broken.  Roxboro is not responsible for damage or theft of any property.  We would also encourage students to not bring expensive digital cameras.  Purchasing a disposable might be a practical alternative.

Students needing to take any form of medication must complete the medical form.  Please include any type of medication, the amount to be taken, and the times at which it is to be taken.  These notes should be turned into the chaperones of you child’s bus, which will be determined later.

Because this is a school trip, all school rules do apply.  Students should behave in a respectful manner at all times.

Students will need some extra money to cover the first day’s lunch.  Any other money the students bring to purchase items in the gift shops is left to parents’ discretion.  We would recommend no more than $60.
