WASHINGTON D.C. TRIP

EXPECTATIONS AND RULES

In order to insure a safe and trouble-free trip, the following expectations, rules and consequences are in place:

ü      Make sure you are at school by 5:30 am.  We depart at 5:45 sharp.  We will not hold up the trip for all of the students to wait for late arrivals.

ü      Any offense, like shoplifting, pranks, etc. that is listed in the student handbook of rights and responsibilities under class “A” will result in a call to the parent and an expectation that the student will be sent home at parent’s expense.  Students who break school rules will face disciplinary consequences when we return to school.

ü      There is no gum, milk, or drinks permitted on the bus.  Snacks and water only.

ü      When an adult is speaking on the bus to the group, there is to be silence.  No headphones allowed when adults are speaking-this is a safety and well as a respect issue.

ü      The bus is to be kept clean.  A bus check is done every time the students exit the bus.  If a mess is found, students will be responsible to clean it up.

ü      The bathroom on the bus is for emergencies only.

ü      Students will be assigned seats on the bus.  For attendance and security purposes, students must remain in those seats at all times.

ü      Students do not need to bring towels to swim.  They will be available at the hotel.

ü      Students should bring a plastic bag for their swim suit so as not to cause all of the other things in their suitcase to become wet.

ü      You must stay with your group at all times.  Students should never go anywhere without their group.  If one person needs to use the restroom, the entire group goes too.  This is a safety issue.  We do not want to lose any students.

ü      Students are reminded that we will not be the only guests in the hotel.  There will be a lights out time and students are expected to be quiet from that time on.

ü      Students will be in their room by 10:30 pm.  The door will then be taped shut.  If the tape is broken, the whole room receives a discipline referral.  If there is an emergency students will be directed to call a chaperone’s room.  There is no reason to leave the room.  Students should only leave the room in the event of a fire alarm.  Students should then seek out the chaperones at the busses.

ü      Each morning, a chaperone will call the room to make sure everyone is awake.  It is the responsibility of the assigned person in the room to make sure everyone is up.  Students need to be down to breakfast on time or they miss eating until lunch.

ü      When we leave the hotel on the last morning, a teacher will check the room.  Students may not leave until a chaperone checks their room.

ü      One person in the room will be assigned a key.  The room captain should keep the key.  The room captain is selected by the group and should be the most responsible person in the group.

ü      Once we leave the hotel for the day, we will not return until the evening.  Students should bring everything they need.  There will be no going back for jackets, cameras, money, etc.

ü      Wear comfortable shoes.  You will be walking a lot and you cannot go barefoot.  Think comfort rather than fashion.  If your feet are killing you, Mr. Sharosky will not carry you.

ü      Don’t bring valuables.  If you lose them, you will be sad.  We will not hold up the trip to search for lost items. If you will be devastated if it is lost-don’t bring it.

ü      All headphones and audio equipment will be left on the bus or in the hotel room.  Students will not wear them while we are touring.

ü      Most of the things in the vending machines are expensive.  It is better to bring a bag of snacks.  You will not be able to go to the lobby to get change.  Once lights are out and the rooms are taped, you are in for the evening.

ü      You will not be permitted to use the phones in the room-only for emergency calls to the chaperone’s room.  Long distance calls cannot be charged to the room.  Bring a phone card or call collect.

ü      If you are sick on Wednesday.  Please stay home.  We don’t want to get all of the other kids sick too.

ü      When an adult is speaking to the group, be silent and listen.

ü      Remember Roxboro’s 3 R’s:

RESPECT  Treat others as you would like to be treated

Be respectful of:

Yourself, Your peers, Your teachers, Your school, Your community

RESPONSIBILITY

Assume the obligation for realizing you can control your destiny

Be responsible for:

Your attitude, Your actions, Your academic success

READINESS

Have all your materials with you when you arrive and come "READY" to learn

ü      Be on time.  There is no excuse to be late and make everyone else wait.  Students who are tardy will be assigned to a chaperone and remain with them for the entire trip.

ü      Be pleasant.  Don’t complain.  Washington is a very crowded city.  We may have to wait in lines, to stand and walk for periods of time.  If you are negative, it makes everyone’s trip less enjoyable.  There will be a “No Whining” policy.

ü      Free time is a reward on the trip.  You will lose this if you misbehave or do not follow the directions of adults.  This is an awesome educational and fun experience.  It is also an expensive trip.  We want you to get the most out of it.  Follow directions and be on your best behavior and this will be a memorable experience.
